Call for Participants: Perception, Discomfort, and Avoidance Behaviours of Pedestrians in Interactions with E-scooters

Updated: Jul 28

UPDATE: This experiment is now full. We thank you for your interest and hope you can participate in one of our upcoming experiments soon.

UCL's Centre for Transport Studies has been exploring how pedestrians interact with an approaching electric scooter to better understand how they perceive discomfort in different lighting conditions.

As part of this research, we are seeking participants over the age of 18 with no exceptional visual, cognitive or musculoskeletal capabilities, which could affect the performance of outdoor walking, to participate in an experiment, where we will be testing discomfort in walking in relation to electric scooter interactions.

The experiment will take approximately two hours with a total walking distance of 2 km. The experiment will take place at PEARL between 5th-8th of August and participants will receive £50 as compensation for their time and travel costs.
