We are currently looking for participants who identify as neurodivergent to take part in a UCL Trellis community-led arts project in East London.
The project seeks to challenge the traditional approach to neurodiversity by diagnosing places, not people, shifting the “problem” from individuals to their surroundings. We aim to harness the heightened sensory perception of neurodivergent people to better understand the impact of environments on wellbeing. The project involves a collaboration with the Tate Institute community to co-create healing environments and develop a participatory co-designed set and performance at PEARL that draws upon its multisensory simulation capabilities to test the impacts of these changes. This work will directly inform the redevelopment of the Tate Institute to make it a safer, more healing and inclusive space for all.
Aims of the project:
Increasing awareness of neurodiversity
Developing co-creation processes
Challenging the diagnosis of neurodiversity
Learning from each other
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for 15 participants to take part in:
Consultation phase at Tate Institute in Newham (8th, 9th Sept, 6th Oct)
Activities during this phase include:
Mapping Tate Institute to identify accessibility barriers.
We will discuss how to implement sensory-friendly strategies for reducing sensory overload.
We will reimage Neurodivergent Assessments to diagnose spaces rather than people.
2. Residency phase at PEARL in Dagenham ( 22nd, 23rd October)
Activities during this phase include:
We will identify and select an area of Tate Institute to simulate at PEARL.
We will explore design alternatives using PEARL’s multisensory simulation capabilities.
We will test these options through participatory performance methodologies.
